The more resources one invests in a patent search, the more confidence one may develops in the reliability of its results. Regardless, in some instances a clearance search is never certain. Someone may have filed a patent application for the same invention two months ago - and that patent application will not be visible today. The uncertainty is gradually removed when one files their own patent application. (The diagram appears crisper in the book.)
